"Fearless Beginnings-Intro to Watercolor Painting"

A four week introduction to watercolor class with local artist/instructor, Susan McGuire. Supplies will be included in this class. We will do the chasing for supplies so that you can explore this media in your new year of creativity without the intimidation and cost of a long supply list. Come and experience something new! Beginning, Friday, February 3-24, from 1-3pm. Susan will be an exhibiting artist in the first SAC exhibit of the year, which opens January, 24 until March 4. The meet the artists reception is Friday, January 27, from 6-8pm and is open to the public.

The cost is $75 for SAC member or $85 for a non-member. Please register early so that adequate supplies are available. Minimum of four students.


Super Bowl Painted Pottery – Sunday, February 5, 1pm – 2:30pm.

Create your own original design on a functional bowl (6.25”x3.25”) The only limitation is your imagination! No experience required.
$15 Member/$20 Non-member.
Bowls will be fired and available to pick up in a week.


Super Bowl Pottery – Sunday, February 5, 3pm – 4:30pm.

Now is your chance if you have ever wanted to try pottery on the wheel, but didn't have the time for a 6 week commitment. Experience the magic of making mud into functional pottery. Glazing of bowls will be Sunday, February 19, 1pm – 2pm. Supplies and tools provided. Bring an old towel, apron and dress for mess! No experience required.

Super Bowl Jewelry – Tree of Life Pendant, Sunday, February 5, 1pm – 3:30pm.
Nancy Wickman, Flushing artist/instructor

Learn to make the popular tree of life pendant from sterling silver filled wire. As each tree in nature is unique, your pendant will be one of a kind. Small beads or crystals may be added (student provided). Tools needed: ruler, flush cutters, flat nose pliers, round nose pliers and chain nose pliers. Bring if you have, otherwise the Arts Center has tools that may be used.

Pre-registration and payment required. Cost: $30 Member/$35 Non-member $10 material fee payable to artist on Feb. 5.


Mokume Gane Jewelry Workshop

Saturday, February 11, 9am – 3pm with a short lunch break. An Asian technique of creating patterned metal with 2 or more types of metal. The finished product produces a one of a kind custom piece of jewelry. The class will cover the various techniques to create the patterned metal using a layered rod of metal. Once created, you will be able to fabricate earrings, rings, or a bracelet. Established award winning artist/instructor Deborah Fehrenbach will also discuss soldering and finishing issues.
$65 Member/$75 Non-member.
Material fee: $30. 5 student minimum. A little experience required! Bring a sack lunch


Portrait Drawing
Instructor: Philip Ruehle, MFA

Throughout these four weeks, an emphasis will be placed on developing the tonal structure of the portrait using both graphite and charcoal. While this course will incorporate general lectures and demos, it will mostly consist of one-on-one instruction in order to better serve and enhance the growth of each individual student. Bring several photographs of anyone you would like to draw. It is preferable if these images are detailed and contain a strong contrast in value. All levels are welcome. Tuesday’s, Feb. 14-March 6, 1:30pm – 4pm
Cost: $65 Member / $75 Non-member
Small supply list: Graphite pencil set that countains a range from 2H-4B, charcoal pencils 2B-4B, kneaded eraser, drawing pad 11 x 14 or 16 x 20.


Mud in the Morning
January 17 – February 21, 10am – 1pm. Tuesday morning's-6 Weeks
Beginning-intermediate level pottery. Various techniques of wheel throwing, hand building and glazing will be taught. Bring your pottery tools, a notebook, disposable gloves and an old towel. An apron is optional. Individual development is of primary importance. Come experiment with clay! Cost includes 25 lbs of clay, glazes and firings. In every bag of clay, there is a pot! Dress for mess.

Botanical Drawing

Natural History Illustration: Habitat Collections

Description:
Who doesn't love to find special stones, shells and lichen covered twigs on their nature walks?!
Bring your collections from your backyard, cottage, or favorite beach and learn how to draw your findings with accuracy. Graphite and/ or colored pencil will be used to create realistic drawings of your treasures from nature.
Thursday’s 1:30-4:30
January 19-February 23   6 weeks
Material fee: $5 payable to instructor at first class

Introduction to Drawing - Tuesday's, January 10-31, 1pm - 3:30pm (4 weeks)

Instructor: Philip Ruehle, MFA

Students will be working from the still life in order to develop the fundamental skills of drawing. This process will include learning how to gesture, sight angles, establish line quality, and build up a tonal structure, which will all contribute in producing a convincing illusion of three dimensional forms on a two dimensional surface. Students will receive both general and individual instruction. Minimum of four students.
$65 Member/ $75 Non-member.
