Clay Handbuilding Workshop with Jann Johnson Lardie
Saturday, October 9, 10 am - 4p.m.
Explore the fun of handbuilding in clay! Your instructor, Jann Johnson Lardie, is a ceramic artist featured in the October 5 – November 7, exhibit at the Shiawassee Arts Center. Beginners and all experience levels are welcome! This is a chance to try your hand at pottery/sculpture making (without using a pottery wheel). Dress for mess and bring a towel. Clay and tools will be provided. A light soup luncheon will also be provided. Class size is limited so sign up early! Ages 18 and over.
There will be a follow up glazing class held on Sunday, October 17, 1-2 pm.

Acrylic Techniques with Tonya Henderson Rollyson

4 Weeks, June 29 - July 20. Time: 6:30 pm - 9pm

Description: "what will be taught" class syllabus:
What is Acrylic paint and how you can use it.
Introduction to the types of Acrylic paint that can be found on the market today and the differences between them.
Introduction to different Acrylic mediums and what they can be used for.
Introduction to types of brushes and how to care for them.
Introduction to tools along with exercises and demos on how to use them.
Exercises in the mixing and layering of colors.
Demonstrations on Acrylic Painting Techniques with question and answer, & practice time given after each Demo.
Step by step instruction for completing a Landscape Acrylic Painting.
Layout & Design. Demonstration of new technique. Guidance while working. Tips on finishing.
Student level: Adult-Young adult

New to painting, new to acrylics, or just wanting some guidance on your paintings, this class is for you. Acrylic painter Tonya Henderson Rollyson will be here to guide you through the process of using acrylics to create your works of art. Learn how to use this mediums various techniques and create a painting uniquely your own.


Fundamentals of Blacksmithing – Returning students/Intermediate Class

Saturday, April 17–May 22, 9am – Noon. 6 Weeks. Cost: $175 SAC Member $190 Non-member

The Shiawassee Arts Center will again be offering the Blacksmithing class with Arthur Johns, instructing. This 6 week course will offer returning students to aspire to more advanced techniques. It will also offer insights into design development and execution. Students will be making some of their own tools, functional objects, and design and build their own individual projects. Students are required to furnish for themselves proper safety gear (safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves and appropriate footwear). Classes will be held at Arthur John's Forge & Design Studio, north of Elsie. Arthur is an artist/blacksmith, with a Master of Fine Arts degree and primarily works in forged iron or steel.


Calligraphy Class
Sue Newcom, Instructor. Wednesday, February 24, 1-3pm.
Calligraphy means "beautiful writing.". Calligraphy can be both a delight to the eye and an inspiration to the spirit. In our technological age, the appreciation for the art of calligraphy has grown incredibly. Calligraphy is a fun hobby, a great business, and a creative art.
$15 Member - - $20 Non-member.


Earth, Water & Fire Pottery
Thursday evening, June 10 – July 15. 6pm – 9pm.
6 Weeks. Beginning to intermediate levels.

Jim Reinert, Master Potter, Instructor. Various techniques of wheel throwing, hand building and glazing will be taught. Bring your tools, a notebook and an old towel. An apron is optional. Individual development is of primary importance. Come experiment with clay! Includes 25 lbs. of clay, glazes and firings. Dress for mess.

Fine Metals/Jewlelry 6 Week class
Dates: Thursday evenings, June 10 – July 15, 6pm – 9pm. Deborah Fehrenbach, Artist/Instructor. Fine metalsmithing jewelry. This will be a continuing class offering. Designed for beginners through intermediate. A self-paced class designed to learn different aspects of metalsmithing. Bring a project you have wanted to make or techniques to learn. The class will be designed around your skill levels. Forging, stone setting, cuttlefish casting, sawing, soldering, fabricating, hinges, resin/enamels, wirework, PMC (Precious Metal Clay) and more, are just a few of your options!
No skills required. Beginners to advanced welcome!
