All I Want for Christmas . . . is at the SAC!

The Arts Center will soon become a Winter Wonderland inside and out with complimentary holiday decorating by Owosso Floral. The SAC's 19th Annual Holiday at the Center opens to the public on Saturday, November 17, with over 100 artists displaying and selling their original artwork, unique gift items and holiday decorations that include jewelry, paintings (oil, watercolor, acrylic & pastel), pottery, blown and fused glass creations, photography, fiber, wood, forged steel sculpture, ornaments, scarves, books, toys and much more. Visitors are sure to find gifts at affordable prices for everyone on their list. Gift cards are also available. The show is sponsored by Memorial Healthcare.

The SAC is also offering many silent auction items including a one-week stay for six people at Frederick Frieseke's house in Normandy, France, a six-foot Santa, metal & fabric angel and an art class. Some of the business and individual donations include a night at Dimmick Bed & Breakfast, a blue spruce from Nash Nurseries, gift certificates/baskets/classes/tickets from The Bake Shop, Gayle Green Flowers, Mootzie's Gallery, the Nail Boutique, OCP and Spagnuolo Chocolates, artwork from Esther Boerman, Linda Stechschulte and Jim Reinert, and much more. Bidding on the silent auction items ends December 23 at 4pm.

A calendar raffle drawing is also offered. Tickets are $20 each. By purchasing one ticket buyers have an opportunity to win ten times throughout the entire year. The first winning $500 ticket will be drawn on December 23, 2007 and the ticket will be put back into the drum for the other nine drawings for a total chance at $5,000.

A special Opening Reception for SAC members is Friday, November 16, 6-8pm with piano music by Richard Lahmann and delicious refreshments. Artist and illustrator, Nick Van Frankenhuyzen will be giving a talk and signing his books at the Arts Center on Sunday, November 18, 2-4pm.

During the show the SAC will feature a number of additional special activities including Late Night Thursdays, 6-9pm. On these evenings guests will receive 15% off one item. Bring in a new member at an individual membership level or higher and both will receive 20% off one item during the Holiday Show.

The SAC also offers Saturday classes for children including "Holiday Art to Share" on December 8, "Watercolor Batik" on December 15, and "Fused Glass" on December 22. There are still openings in the popular "Family Gingerbread House" on December 1st.

Holiday at the Center continues through December 30, Tuesday-Saturday 12-5pm and Sundays 1-5pm. The Arts Center will be open from 12-2pm December 24 and closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. A 20% off everything sale begins December 26 and runs through December 30. The Shiawassee Arts Center is located next to Curwood Castle at 206 Curwood Castle Drive.
