|
An exciting new exhibition opens at the Shiawassee Arts Center in Owosso on Tuesday, July 20 and runs through August 29. Pauline Pierce Harmon of Jackson is exhibiting her acrylic paintings along with 24 members of the Flint Artist Market who are showing their multi-media artwork. The opening reception to meet the artists is Friday, July 23, 6-8pm. The public is welcome to this free event. Refreshments and music are offered. The exhibit is sponsored by Getzen & Connell, CPAs and Deb Walworth, CPA.
Pauline Pierce Harmon has a deep love of nature and a passion for animals. When she is not painting much of her time is spent at wildlife refuges or zoos either sketching or taking photographs for reference material. She and her husband enjoy traveling to wild and remote places where many of the beautiful animals she paints live. She states, "I cannot imagine a world without animals, but unfortunately, we are encroaching on many of their habitats and endangering their existence. I fear the day will come when many of our exotic animals will no longer exist in the wild."
The 60-year-old organization, Flint Artist Market, is composed of artists working in a wide variety of art fields. All members are actively producing art, have current resumes and are regularly accepted into Juried competitions. The members meet monthly to critique art, exchange ideas and discuss exhibition opportunities. Membership is open by invitation to all professional artists. The president is Robert Huebel. Current members are Mary Lou Ackerman, Mary Andrews, Pauline Angle, Carol Brender, Bonnie Brown, Larry Clegg, Jeanne Curtis, Nancy Dash, Stefan Davidek, Vicki Frappier, Annie Guevara, Joan Horcha, Robert Huebel, Grace Hungerford, Mary Ann Juretich, Sue McKee, John Mrozik, Nancy Pennell, Fran Plagens, Ron Schmitz, Heather Sisto, Bill Stolpin, Florence Walling, Barbara White and Linda Woodruff.
