Forty-seven Michigan artists representing over 30 cities from throughout the state were chosen to display their artwork in the Shiawassee Arts Center's 15th Annual Juried All-Media Art Competition. The juror, Chris VanAntwerp, retired art teacher and past director of the Lowell Arts Council, stated "there is a narrative theme in the artwork and the human figure plays a significant role in this exhibit."

$2,000 in awards will be presented at the public reception on Friday, July 31, 6-8pm. The Competition is sponsored by George Hoddy in honor of his late wife, Lois Hoddy. Award sponsors include John Wilkins of Farm Bureau Insurance, Dr. Michael Schmidt of Mid-Michigan Orthopedics, and Cathy & Tom Stevenson.

Award recipients include Linda Beeman, John Diephouse, Marnie Fender, Ned Krouse, Jann Lardie, Philip Ruehle, Joy Schroeder, Tom Tomasek and Robert Van Duyne.

Additional artists accepted into the show include Juanita Baldwin, Carmen Bammert, K.W. Bell, Judith Bogart, Gail Bohner, Jackie Borzich, Marguerite Bronson, Bonnie Brown, Jeanne Curtis, Joel Ellis, Cindy Evans, Steve Fanelli, Deb Fehrenbach, Susan Fernholz, Gretchen Foster, Maryann Gamel, Rosita Gendernalik, Joe Green, Grace Hungerford, Ken Kaiser, Lucy Kovalcik, Jessica Kovan, Ryan Leslie, Marti Liddle-Lameti, Sue Monroe, Gerald Moore, Carolyn Ojala, Julie Penfold, Nancy Rhodes, Anita Saviko, Marcia Selley, Inez Slaubaugh, Carolyn Texera, Alice Tompkins, Harley Veale, Barbara Walworth, Paula Wild, Dianne Wolter and Dick Zayac.

The purpose of the Competition is to recognize achievement among Michigan artists in all media and to bring the work together in an outstanding annual juried exhibition. Most of the artwork on display is available for purchase.

The Shiawassee Arts center is located in Curwood Castle Park in Owosso and is open Tuesday through Sunday, 1-5pm. The Arts Center features the artwork of local and statewide artists in eight galleries including the Frieseke Gallery and a specialty Gift Shop. The public is welcome and there is no admission charge. The Shiawassee Arts Council, celebrating its 37th anniversary in 2009, is a non-profit corporation whose mission is to encourage participation and appreciation of the arts.
