Alan Maciag of Bridgeport, Susan Woodard of Bowling Green, Ohio and the SAC Artists Guild will be exhibiting their multi-media work at the Shiawassee Arts Center, May 22-June 17. The reception to meet the artists is Sunday, May 27, 2-4pm. The show is sponsored by Sunburst Gardens.

The pure beauty of nature at its finest hour is inspiration for Maciag’s oil paintings. He states, "I am especially moved by sunlight and the magic ray of light cast upon a particular subject . . . from a field of poppies to an Ida red apple." As a plein-air painter, his interest in architecture and gardening are recurring themes in his current body of work. Maciag is a graduate of Central Michigan University with an M.A. in Art Education. He is retired from teaching art for the last thirty-two years in the Frankenmuth School District. His work is in numerous collections throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Woodard’s art often combines elements of both painting and printmaking and her approach is experimental, exploring non-traditional ways of producing textures and marks. She states, "I use non-traditional methods of applying ink and paint to paper. And instead of leading my image to a predetermined conclusion, I allow the image to lead me." She uses tools such as brayers, string, plexiglass, wood blocks and many other found objects dripping, splattering rolling, pressing and printing the paint onto the paper, finally using linocuts or woodcuts to define the focus of the work.

Woodard received a B.A. in Studio Art with a minor in Art History from Indiana University. While living in Owosso she was the gallery manager at the Arts Center for nearly four years. Her work has appeared in galleries in Michigan and Ohio and she has won many awards including the 2006 Curwood Festival Print Contest.

The SAC Artists Guild is exhibiting at the Arts Center for the third year in a row with a multi-media show entitled "Figure It Out." The Guild was established in 2002 and currently has 23 member artists from Owosso, Corunna, Bancroft, Morrice and Perry who work in a variety of media.
