It's Raining Cats and Dogs because the SAC and the Shiawassee Humane Society have partnered to bring the national Animals on Parade phenomenon, a highly successful public art project to Shiawassee County.

The subjects of the art project are three-foot high, fiberglass cats and dogs that are sponsored by local businesses and individuals, painted by local artists, and put on public display this summer.

The goals of the project are to increase visibility of the needs of homeless cats and dogs at the Humane Society, to feature area artists, to provide a fun and fanciful art display for the public to enjoy and to raise money for both organizations.

There are two levels of sponsorship. Both levels provide for the purchase of the fiberglass form, the artist design and materials, the display period, and all publicity. As a $1,000 Animal Loving Sponsor, the animals will auctioned off following the display period. As a $2,000 Adopting Sponsor, the proud parent owns the dog or cat at the end of the display period. Adopting Sponsors may choose from the submitted artists designs or they may use their own artists.

Thanks to the following artists who have designed an animal: Marti Liddle-Lameti, Linda Ruehle, Jeanne Curtis, Bonnie Brown, Linda Ross, and Brett "Xavier" Kosier.

Thanks to the following sponsors for their support of the project: Dr. Daniel Williams, Donna & George Hebert, Dr. David Louwsma, Piper Brewer, Marlene Fick, Patrick Marutiak, Frank Livingston, Kitty & Paul Kuhlman, Deb & Bill Gilbert, Dr. Sherrie Brooks, Tom Cook & Ann Owens, Carol Vaughn, Karen & Matt Van Epps and Marti Liddle-Lameti.
